Following centuries of Billiards dominated by England and France, during the 19th century a third country became obsessed with the sport of cues and balls. Billiard tables had been appearing in all the colonies from the 1600s but Americans were particularly keen. As with other aspects of American life, Billiards culture became a mish-mash of the cultures of the immigrant populations. Americans played early Port and King Billiards, held English Billiards competitions, indulged in Pin Billiards from Italy and, in contrast to Britain and its empire, imported Carambole tables without pockets from France.
Now I want you to think of the color of the top fabric of the pool table. You can't say for certain that the fabric is 100% blue or 100% green. It's a rather blueish green color, kind of like the planet Earth. Now think of all the balls with different colors and parallelize them with the different coloured populations on Earth. We have a red ball, yellow ball, yellow ball, brown ball, etc. The White ball is the powerful one that strikes and hits all the other colours. Now especially for the black ball, the games have special rules. In most of the games, when the white ball strikes the black ball at the final stages of the game, the player wins. When the black ball is put in, before being the last ball on the table, the game simply ends. Moreover, it does not matter how many times the white ball falls off the table, it is allowed to just keep on coming back on the table and striking the rest of the coloured balls over and over. Kind of ironic don't you think? I mean, if you take the pool table and attempt to cross it with the events of World History, my guess is that you would be able to find more than one common events; coincidence? I don't think so.
